Alex Neil pleased that Millwall got at least a draw against Preston

It was a game decided in the end by two mistakes, the visitors took the lead when a poor back pass left Millwall keeper Max Crocombe stranded, which gave Michael Smith the chance to poke his shot into the net from close range. Millwall equalised after the ball was played back to Preston keeper, Daniel Iversen, who swung his foot and missed the ball completely, allowing Mihailo Ivanovic an open net for his second goal of the season.

Despite believing his side started the game better, Neil feels that giving Preston the lead through a mistake was costly.

“I thought we started the game quite brightly”, claimed the Millwall manager.

“I thought we were moving the ball well.”

“Obviously the mistake gave Preston a foot up in the game, it’s probably the worst team you want to do it against because they are quite content to stay in their shape and hit on the counter.”

‘”e then had to work doubly hard to try and break them down, doing that leaves us a bit open to the counter attack .”

“I thought we played well in the first half and created some good chances, we created some good spaces.”

“The decision making at the time was lacking whether it was a cross or shot.”

“We get the mistake that Daniel (Iversen) makes which allowed us to get back into the game, we started the second half pretty well but the game changed when the subs (for Preston) came onto the pitch.”

“I think (Lewis) Dobbin, (Thierry) Small, (Alfie) Devine, all looked bright and fresh.”

“If you look at the game over the 90 minutes, I would say that we probably edged it, I thought we had more chances in the game than they did. However when the game finishes in the manner that it did in the last ten minutes, it leaves you with a feeling of take the point.

” I didn’t think that we deserved to lose the game overall”

“Overall I was pleased with the effort that the lads put in.”
