Bradbury pleased to make point

Since being appointed Daggers boss in the summer, Bradbury has overseen just one win from his opening nine National League South fixtures at the helm, losing four times over that period.

However, after a damaging 5-2 home defeat to Worthing a fortnight earlier, the former AFC Bournemouth striker took positives from his side’s defensive display against Marc White’s team.

“I’m really pleased. There are not many teams who come here and keep a clean sheet,” the Daggers boss told the club website.

“I’m pleased with the performance without the ball. We were much better with the ball today, certainly in the second half, and we had a few opportunities to score.

“Teams rarely come here and keep clean sheets because they’re so open and throw caution to the wind, but we dealt with it really well. I think they had one chance in the end, which we’ll cover in a minute with the injuries.”

In the latter stages of the cagey affair, loanee goalkeeper Dan Barden caught the knee of Dorking midfielder Charlie Carter, while Christian Maghoma landed nastily on his shoulder, causing a dislocation earlier on in the match.

Bradbury added: “Dan’s got a nasty cut on his forehead. I think the knee of Charlie Carter, as he makes the save – unintentionally, of course – goes into the head of Dan. It’s a nasty cut. He’s going to need either glueing or stitching or whatever that may look like for him.

“Christian Maghoma lands on his shoulder and dislocates his shoulder. We’re just not getting a break with these things at the moment. Whether we’re getting suspensions, injuries. Joe Haigh – ingrown toenail over the last couple of days – not fit to play today.

“Kayden (Harrack) pulled his glute picking something up off the floor, so all these little things are going against us, you know. We’ve got a couple of suspensions coming up as well with PK (Paul Kalambayi) and Andy (Carroll).

“As I said, though, to the group in there, to win games of football, to compete and be hard to beat, it takes everyone. And everyone who came off the bench today and the lads that didn’t get on the pitch showed a really good togetherness and a really good desire not to concede goals.”

Dagenham travel to Spalding in the FA Cup third qualifying round on Saturday and Bradbury confirmed there was likely to be some rotation in aid of utilising the depth of his squad.

He added: “Yeah, there’ll be a little bit of that. We certainly won’t be taking Spalding lightly. They’ve been promoted a couple of times in recent years. They’ve got some really good players there and a good healthy budget.

“I’ll be going up to watch them on Tuesday. They’ve got one which I can go and watch up at Bury Town, so we’ll know more about them come Tuesday night.

“It’s certainly one we can look at, and we forcefully have to make changes because of the injuries and suspensions we’ve got at the moment.”
