The Daggers found themselves two goals down after just 13 minutes before Eastleigh centre-back Ludwig Francillette struck midway through the second half to stretch the visitors’ winless run to eight National League matches.
“Nowhere near good enough. The blame’s squarely on my shoulders, first of all. It’s all on me in terms of the performance and the result,” said Young.
“It’s nowhere near good enough. We’ve gone seven games now without three points. It’s not disappointing, it’s just disgusting, and I’ve told the players so.
“We know we’ve got to get up for another game on Saturday, but looking at today’s game, it’s nowhere near good enough.”
Clearly seething by what had unfolded on the south coast, Young refused to put the result down to a slow start as the team fell behind early on.
“No. Our performance was our downfall. We gave away three sloppy goals and countless opportunities,” he replied when asked if the opening exchanges caused the team’s downfall.
“I don’t really feel like we tested their keeper at all. I know we’ve had a couple of half-moments, but half-moments ain’t good enough when you’re in the position we’re in now.”
The visit of Oldham on Saturday comes at the perfect time for the Daggers to respond as they look to end a grim run of results, which have left the club in 17th place, just four points above the relegation zone.
“It’s not about the boys; it’s about me first of all. I’ve got to take responsibility and I will,” Young continued.
“I’m not shirking away from it. It’s squarely on my shoulders. The players are giving their efforts, but effort’s not enough at the minute. We need to see better from all different parts of the team, the players, the coaching staff. All of us.
“It’s squarely on my shoulders first of all and I’ll accept that, and I’ll make sure that I’ll try to get the best possible team available for Saturday.”
And Young also had a message for the fans after the travelling supporters expressed their displeasure with the performance.
“They’re right. They’ve got every right to be upset. They don’t expect to pay their money to come and watch a team play the way they did,” he said.
“I’ve got to take all of the blame for it, and then when we start getting results the credit will be for everyone else. At the moment, I’m really disappointed with what’s gone on tonight.
“It’s not something that I want to put my name to too much, but I’ll have to squarely take the blame for it.”
