Nathan Jones’ gave his overall thoughts on the game.
“We were right in the game in terms of everything. I just think it’s about moments.
“We didn’t start particularly well and we allowed them to score from a counter-attack from turning the ball over.
“We got ourselves back in it, we have opportunities, we hit the bar, had some opportunities.
“We had a lot of set plays in the final third, those are the moments where we have to take.
“Then again they’ve turned the ball over in the middle of the park and then they score from a counter attack. That’s the only way I saw them scoring.
“There’s a lesson to be learnt there, this is a quality league so they have individuals that can hurt you.”
Nathan Jones wasn’t happy with some of the refereeing decision form today’s game, mainly the moment in the second half when Kelman went down on the edge of the area, which the referee deemed as a non-foul.
Jones expressed his frustration at that moment.
“Kelman (Charlie Kelman) went down, which is a second booking, it wasn’t given because, apparently it wasn’t a promising attack, even though it’s right on the edge of the 18-yard box
“I don’t know how much more promising you have to get than that, it’s a categorical yellow card.
“There is a big decision that went against us, that you expect people to get right. He had a hand on Mbengue (Amadou Salif Mbengue) who won the ball off TC (Tyreece Campbell) gave it to their player (Richard Kone), he scored.”
It’s been a mixed start for Charlton since their promotion to the Championship this season. The Addicks were victorious on the opening day against Watford on the opening day, however backed that up with a draw to Bristol City, defeat to Leicester City and a loss to Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup last Tuesday.
Jones gave his thoughts on Charlton’s start to the season.
“We’ve had a look at the league, we’ve settled, quite comfortably in terms of our performance.
“We’re learning that if you don’t punish teams, they’ll punish you.
“We had 20 shots against Leicester and they scored a world-class goal and that’s what it took to beat us.
“So we’re learning, if we don’t defend or we’re not the best versions of ourselves then we’re going to get punished, so it’s a learning curve for us.
In two days time, the summer transfer window will close and clubs will be restricted with the current group of players until January 1st.
Jones spoke about plans from now until deadline day.
“We’re looking to strengthen the squad, it won’t be a couple more, probably be one, but it’s just that one we need, we have to make sure we get it right.
“We’ve got a good squad, we’re weak in one area, which we have to address, but we have tried to adjust that for the last seven or eight months, but it’s just a little bit more quality that we need”
