Three big planning developments for Greenwich set to progress this year

The schemes include a 1,291.5 square metre bus garage and two major entertainment venues on Greenwich Peninsula.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Go-Ahead Bus Garage, Thamesmead

Plans have been submitted to Greenwich Council to build a new bus garage in West Thamesmead, on a largely vacant former storage depot at 18–20 Purland Road.

The proposals, from Go-Ahead Group and RPH Town Planning, would see the industrial site redeveloped into a modern depot designed to support London’s transition to a zero-emission bus fleet.

The facility would measure around 1,291.5 square metres and accommodate up to 132 buses, alongside a five-bay workshop, 159 electric charging points and staff facilities including offices, meeting rooms and lockers. Landscaping plans include the planting of 27 trees, while the development is expected to create around 350 jobs.

If approved, construction could begin in June 2026 and complete by June 2027.

Secret Cinema, Greenwich Peninsula

Plans have been put forward to create a new long-term home for Secret Cinema on Greenwich Peninsula, with proposals submitted to Greenwich Council for an immersive entertainment venue.

The scheme would see the company establish a permanent base after years of hosting events in temporary locations, as part of the wider regeneration of the Peninsula.

The proposed development includes a purpose-built theatre and event space capable of holding up to 1,500 people, alongside a two-storey front-of-house building with a foyer, bar and box office.

Developers say the project could create around 125 jobs and boost visitor numbers in the area, building on Greenwich Peninsula’s growing cultural offer around The O2 and Design District.

The venue is intended to operate for up to 10 years and host large-scale immersive productions combining film, theatre and live performance.

If approved, construction could begin later in 2026, with an opening targeted for October.

Troubadour Theatre, Greenwich Peninsula

Greenwich councillors have approved plans for a new temporary theatre on the Peninsula, paving the way for a major cultural venue near The O2. The Troubadour Theatre, proposed by the company behind Canary Wharf’s theatre, will operate as a 10-year “meanwhile use” development on riverside land.

The scheme includes two enclosed auditoriums with 1,500 seats each, alongside bars, a restaurant and public terraces.

Developers say the project will help expand London’s live performance offering, with Troubadour’s founders describing the decision as a “major milestone”.

The theatre is aiming to open by the autumn this year.
